Ingredients of Clop-G Cream
Clobetasol: Clop-G Cream contains clobetasol (0.05% w/w). It belongs to the class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It is commonly prescribed for eczema, dermatitis, and other skin-related allergic and inflammatory reactions.
Gentamicin: It contains gentamicin (0.1% w/w). Gentamicin belongs to a class of drugs known as aminoglycosides antibiotics. It is mainly used to treat bacterial infections of the skin.
How does Clop-G Cream work? / Mode of action
Clobetasol in Clop-G Cream works by three main mechanisms.
Anti-inflammatory action: Clobetasol works by binding to the DNA in cells and producing a glycoprotein called lipocortin. Lipocortin thus works by inhibiting PLA2 (phospholipase A2) and further inhibits the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are generally responsible for inflammatory reactions in the body. Thus blocking the production of prostaglandins by blocking PLA2 helps in relieving inflammation and irritation of the skin.
Immunosuppressive action: Immune cells usually release toxins into the body to defend against foreign particles. These toxins usually cause more inflammation. Clobetasol works by interfering with this action and prevents tissue damage due to excessive inflammation.
Vasoconstrictive action: Swelling occurs when blood vessels dilate more than usual. Clobetasol works by constricting the blood vessels and helps reduce swelling and redness.
Whereas the gentamicin in Clop-G Cream is an antibiotic. It blocks protein synthesis in the bacterial cell wall by binding to the 30S ribosome. As a result, it shows antibacterial action.
